Program Management support for a major system implementation in the energy sector

The client was an international energy company with various power generation and transmission assets and infrastructure. The power generation division wanted to replace their "home grown" Computerized Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) with an industry leading package.

Client's Challenge
The client selected a software package (IBM's Maximo) and a system implementer to carry out the configuration and implementation of the CMMS software. However, the internal resources lacked experience in major system implementation and wanted external Program/Project Management support that was 3rd party to both the client and the system implementer. The overall project team included approximately 150 resources and required experienced program management support.

StraNexus' Approach
Our approach included:

  • Working with current PM resources to set up a PMO and standard processes for the program
  • Coaching and guiding current PM and lead resources through major project milestones, day-to-day cadence, and steering committee reporting
  • Actively managing scope, resources, budget, and timelines for the project

 

Results

  • On time and on budget implementation of the new CMMS product
  • Project was considered a model IT program within the client organization
  • Set up an internal team of client resources to provide continued support and project management for future phases of the program
